Session:

Server Memory Power Consumption&Capacity Planning Utilizing VMware Technology

Presenter:

Kingston

As the main cache storage for all data that is read or written by the processor cores, memory plays a key role in supporting server performance. This session will first cover the main memory options available for Intel and AMD based x86 servers. Memory modules consume power, and servers with high memory capacities can be configured in inefficient ways resulting in higher power consumption. Large server deployments can further aggravate power consumption issues. Kingston will present test results for memory power consumption and performance on specific server platforms, along with best practice memory recommendations that will assist in meeting the power reduction and performance objectives of server consolidations. Next, we will discuss server memory capacity planning for implementing VMware HA&DRS.
