Session Title:

Smart Application Deployment - Moving Beyond VirtualCenter Templates

Session Abstract:

A significant benefit of virtual infrastructure is that it simplifies software deployment and software management by encapsulating full execution environments within a virtual machine. A full encapsulated software stack in a VM is often called a virtual appliance.
We will explore in detail how virtual appliances map to Virtual Infrastructure mechanisms such as templates, virtual machines, and resource pools. We will discuss how highly customizable VM templates can be built using VMware Tools's guestInfo feature that goes beyond the built-in template customization, how the new virtual appliance import/export features can be used, setting up company-wide template repositories, and finally looking forward to how multi-tier applications can be encapsulated and distributed.
