Session Title:

Using IP based replication as an Enabler for Server Virtualization and Storage Repurposing

Session Abstract:

If you want to learn how one company leveraged virtualization to free themselves from the ball and chain of outdated hardware and storage technology, this presentation is for you. The key to success in this customer case study was their use of IP based replication software for migration of their mission critical applications from a legacy environment to a state of the art virtualized infrastructure.
With the aging of physical servers, IT professionals are looking for ways to upgrade to modern operating systems and hardware while laying down the foundation to avoid future IT infrastructure landmines. Whether it's acquisition of new storage technology, new servers, or even the virtualization of existing servers, repurposing the data from the legacy to new environment can pose major challenges, especially when it comes to limiting user downtime. Innovative use of IP based replication is the key to reliably and cost effectively shifting from a physical to virtual environment without the use of any custom hardware.
Computer Sciences Raytheon tackled this problem using IP based replication technology powered by CA XOsoft to move their data from their existing physical servers, using older SAN arrays, to VMware based virtual servers on new arrays. They accomplished this daunting task over the course of just a few weeks with zero data loss and less than ten minutes down time per server while meeting their superior grade SLA's.
