Session Title:

Getting The Most Out Of VMotion: EVC, Performance Tuning, and Troubleshooting

Session Abstract:

This session details aspects of vSphere 4 that should be understood in order to minimize VMotion problems and maximize VMotion performance. The first of these is Enhanced VMotion Compatibility (EVC), which has undergone notable changes in vSphere 4. Familiarity with the concepts and underlying technology of EVC can make it easier to build and grow clusters with minimal VM downtime and without CPU compatibility issues blocking VMotion. Second, to maximize VMotion performance it is important to understand the factors that affect it: the networkfabric, characteristics of the VMotion transport protocol, Vmotion resource utilization patterns, and how to determine the impact of VM workload. Finally, knowledge of common VMotion failures and how to triage them will help you keep your datacenter running smoothly.
