Session Title: | vApps, OVF, and Advanced VM Templates in vSphere |
Session Abstract: | This talk will be a deep dive into two of the relative new features in vSphere, namely vApps and OVF support. Come and learn what is new, and how this integrates with vCloud. vApps provide a natural way to represent and manage multi-tiered software solutions in vSphere. OVF support enable easy sharing of software solutions and advanced customization during deployment for both single VM software solutions to complex multi-tiered solutions. These features can greatly simplify the installation and management of software solutions of complex applications. In this talk, we will give an overview of the overall concepts and how they are presented in the vSphere Client. We will then quickly dive into a number of practical scenarios where these features are used, including creation and configuration of a complex multi-tiered vApp. We will then move into an example that uses the OVF environment to do advanced runtime configuration of a VM template. This includes application-level configuration, such as controlling IP settings. Finally, we will show how OVF and vApps integrates with vCloud and also with Workstation/Fusion using the vapprun and OVF tool. |
