Server Virtualization project plan

Is there a sample project plan that anyone would be willing to share for server virtualization using ESXi?

Re: Server Virtualization project plan

EMiguel,

Are you also planning on using the Dell EMC device as shared storage?

When you refer to DR are you working on site DR plan (a.k.a. smoking crater insurance) or equipment DR plan (Server, storage, and/or network failure.)

What are you planning to use as a backup solution?  Put another way: what data are you planning on backing up to the Dell and how are you planning on getting it there?

You've mentioned one ESXi host and two redundant servers.  Is the redundant server also an ESXi host or are you referring to a guest server you're hoping to run redundantly?

If you are looking at an affordable shared storage option, you can download StorMagic SvSAN for free. That way, you can get the benefits of Server Virtualization without investing in an external SAN. Depends on the scope of your project of course. The StorMagic Virtual SAN supports ESXi.

Re: Server Virtualization project plan

EMiguel,

Did you ever get a response to this question that gave you an example plan?  I only ask as I am running a project, completely unrelated to Virtualization, however, my IS team informs me that they want to virtualize the clients hardware half way through my project.

They tell me it's a simple flick of the switch activity (I'm not that naive) but they don't plan to do any testing - I was hoping to find some examples of Virtualization plans that show a test phase, both pre and post delivery to prove the exercise has not affected the service in any way.

If you managed to get an example plan, can you send me a copy - I'll provide an email address if easier.

Kind regards,

Chris

If you have enough server for virtualization, you will have a failover cluster
